Thrills
The first publication in Zeta Series in Anthropology & Sociology
A book about oriental(ist) fashion, about trendiness in a conservative
- if not "fundamentalist" – society. Prof.
Vintila Mihailescu, senior editor, Zeta Books Anthropology Series
On 24 October 2007, at 5pm, at the Romanian
Peasant Museum,
in Bucharest,
Zeta Books will officially launch the new Anthropology and Sociology Series and
also its first publication, in front of an audience made up of well-known
Romanian academics and specialists in the field. Our speakers will include:
Vintila Mihailescu (director, The Romanian Peasant Museum), Adina Nanu (writer,
professor of art and history of the costume, National
Arts University,
Bucharest), Raluca
Moise-Aldoiu (editor, Zeta Series in Anthropology & Sociology), Paul Balogh
(director, Zeta Books).
We have decided to open the Anthropology and Sociology Series with a uniquely
fascinating book where Alexandru Balasescu explores the world of fashion by
examining two apparently opposite places: Paris, the crowned capital of fashion,
and Tehran, a city that would hardly make one think of fashion.
Alexandru Balasescu's book will challenge the reader with a new discourse on
fashion translated into the description of anthropology about the difference
between two apparently opposite worlds as bridged by the
fashionable, a discourse about modernity and secularism, globalization and
consumerism, or perhaps a discourse about individualism, intimacy and a
permanent search for identities.
If you find yourself curious to know what the book is all about, please attend
the Zeta Books event on 24 October 2007 and/or order online (orders@zetabooks.com)
the printed & electronic versions.
